THINK! DON’T DRIVE TIRED!

http://metodosalargarpene.es/ebioer/4392 This was the sign (of the road sign variety rather than the miracle variety) that I saw when I was driving home a few nights ago. Delirium had obviously kicked in as I found myself laughing out loud on my own in the car (it’s the small things!). The authorities clearly don’t mean this to be aimed at parents of little humans, do they?!? If they do, perhaps they could throw in some additional free childcare for us tired…

IS EASTER THE NEW CHRISTMAS?

Christmas is a long distant memory, mothers’ day has past and we’re still enjoying the long-awaited (having arrived a couple of weeks’ later than last year) long weekend that is the Easter break. Backed onto a week with stepson number 2, we’ve (that is stepson number 2, the babies and I, Mr. High Heels’ would rather work than contend with the rest of the school-going world) enjoyed a trip to the cinema to see Beauty and the Beast (loved it!)…

BEING DRIVEN POTTY BY TOILET TRAINING?

It’s been 28 days since the 2-and-a-half-year-old decided (finally…am I allowed to say that!?!) he wanted to take a pee on the potty. I’m not sure if this is normal, but when he did, I celebrated! Ever the pushy mother (I know my faults) I was hell-bent on getting him toilet trained by 2-years old. I was determined not to potty-train but to toilet-train. So determined in fact, that I wouldn’t even entertain the prospect of potties. I even banned…

REFLECTIONS & RESOLUTIONS

I know, I know, every blogger is writing about new years’ resolutions. Although I’m not, not really anyway. I’ve never been a fan of new years’ resolutions. I’m more a ‘mid-year resolution’ kind of girl. Or a ‘I-need-to-make-change-now’ resolution. The crux of it is, I don’t believe that because it’s new year, you’ll make a resolution stick. So, I make the resolutions as I go. For example, in May 2016 I made a resolution that I would no longer iron…

ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A TWO YEAR OLD?

The answer in my case is a resounding no. As I found out, unceremoniously, alerted by my 2-year old this week. I am a lawyer. I would consider myself to be doing okay in the smarts-stakes. But in the switched-on mother stakes, I’m still ranking in the ‘not-quite caught up with the vibe’ arena. Had it not been for 2-year olds’ astonishing ingenuity this week, I would have still be labouring under the misapprehension of ranking a little higher than…

Returning to Work Confessional…

Yesterday was International Women’s Day when I had planned to publish this post, but because I’m a working mum, time ran away with me and now it’s the day after International Women’s Day, but I’m going to publish my post anyway, because it’s relevant any day. Today (now yesterday) I bumped into my friend and neighbour. She has four children and has dedicated her life to looking after them. “I suppose you’re back at work?”, she asked, as I picked…

THE GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST

If you read my post on it beginning to feel like Christmas you’ll know that I was a little behind in getting into the Christmas spirit due to works taking place at home. Whilst that didn’t stop me preparing in the background, I was certainly slow on the decorations uptake. We finally got the decs up on the 18th when Stepson Number 2 arrived having finished school. Every year we chose a colour scheme for the coming year and it…

IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS…

Except, in the High Heels’ household it’s not. Not quite. Despite me being more excited than the children (even though they have no idea what time of year it is!), this year being the first year in the last 3 years that I’m not either a) just having given birth or b) being heavily pregnant, I am still struggling to get in the Christmas spirit. It’s not through want of trying my it is through my own doing!…

Surviving Easter with chocolate and Luton Hoo Spa

I survived Easter, just. It wasn’t without indulging, sorry allow me to rephrase that, over-indulging in multiple treats “because it’s Easter” and copious amounts of alcohol (most days, not just “because it’s Easter”!). Every year I swear I won’t let the kids have so much chocolate, because something in the chocolate turns them into wanton, […]

Super School Mum (er…not!)

Three weeks back from the summer holiday and it’s week 3 of back to school. After a slow start (2 weeks of transitioning) they’re thrown in at the deep end of full days. As am I. It’s a shock to the system.

Self-care; self-indulgence or self-preservation?

I recently read a blog post by The Bright Mama about self-care. It intrigued me because I have always been very pro-self-care; I always, without fail, have my nails done, I’m rarely seen out of the house without my face on and I like to dress well whether I’m in jeans or dressed for work. […]

Are you achieving work life balance…

It’s work-life balance week. It’s taken me this long to actually get this post out here, but I have put spent a week thinking about it Here’s the definition of balance: balance /ˈbal(ə)ns/ noun an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady. “she lost her balance and fell” a situation in which different […]

Eggless Vegetable Frittata

I ran out of eggs yesterday and being in #selfisolation I haven’t been able to get any. I love to do a tortilla, being of Spanish origin, and I often do these when I have leftover roast potatoes from Sunday’s dinner. So as not to break with tradition, I found a way around the absence of eggs! Here it is…

When the reality of #Selfisolation hits

A week ago, we were laughing that self-isolation sounded like a wonderful thing and how lovely it would be to have time on our hands, even fantasising about what we’d do with it! Until it happened.

Dining in, the new dining out!

It’s almost four weeks that we’ve been in lockdown. Every day feels like Groundhog Day! It’s the most bizarre Easter weekend we’ve ever experienced and yet the Husband and I were still looking forward to four days without our emails pinging and the phone ringing.

Lockdown Lowdown – Week 5

Despite the difficulties, being with the kids is a delight. The 5-year old is so my son, last week I recognised just how annoying I must be to live with! The Husband just laughed. A lot.
